I started with a blank canvas and painted the words SURRENDER in black and went from there.

::

This painting told me when it was done. Initially, I very quickly + intuitively painted 34 circles on his canvas + let them dry. I did not count these circles at that time, I just went to town with my paintbrush. For some reason, three of those circles bugged me and I ended up painting over them + not giving it a second thought. I then brought the painting in the house + hung it in my bedroom. I wasn't sure if it was done yet, so I wanted to live with it for a few weeks + see how I felt about it.

This morning, I woke up + stared at it...HARD. I decided to count the circles + quickly realized there were a total of 31 dark, black circles. I recalled that I had stopped working on this painting just days after I had quietly celebrated my 31st month of sobriety on September 3rd. Again, I didn't put any of this together when I was painting it.

This series is called Full Circle and it seemed to me that this painting was now done. The symbolism + graphic nature of the 31 circles felt like the universe was telling me something. I knew the painting didn't need another thing. It was complete now.

This was my first time painting on a hard wood panel canvas this large. It will look beautiful when hung in your home. No need for framing.
